The idea that the most advanced form would look organic is old: Art Nouveau took its lines from plants, and mid-century designers such as Isamu Noguchi drew furniture from bones and pebbles. What changed after 2000 was the tooling. Computational design let designers generate forms from growth rules, and digital fabrication, 3D printing above all, let them make shapes that no mould or lathe could produce.
Around 2010 the look moved from buildings into bodies and objects. Iris van Herpen began showing 3D-printed couture in 2010, dresses that look like bone, coral or water frozen mid-splash. At MIT, Neri Oxman's Mediated Matter group made structures with living organisms, among them the Silk Pavilion, spun by 6,500 silkworms in 2013. Björk's Biophilia, released in 2011, gave the idea a musical and visual world.
Since the late 2010s, 3D rendering and image generation have made the style widely visible: pearl-white objects with lattice skins, garments like exoskeletons, rooms like the inside of a shell. It runs through fashion, beauty and fragrance, biotech branding and science-fiction concept art, and it answers a mood as much as a technique: a future imagined as something that grows alongside nature rather than overriding it.
